At just 18, Rami took a big risk and opened his own phone repair shop. Unfortunately, his risk did not pay off and the shop failed within the first year. But, Rami would not give up; he spent the next 12 years working for local trades people and struggling to support his family on low-wage jobs. At 30, still dreaming of owning his own phone repair business, Rami knew he needed more technical training to achieve this goal. In order to realize his dream, Rami enrolled in HANDS’ 10-day vocational training program to learn the cell phone repair skills needed to manage the store.

With that training and a lot of hard work, Rami’s was able to start over with his shop. His new shop has already lasted over five years! For Rami’s three kids, this store means that they can each receive a decent education and consider more professional opportunities than their father did.

Thanks to HANDS generous supporters, a young father of three children, Rami, is running a thriving cell phone repair shop in his bustling Cairo neighborhood. We are so grateful to be able to continue supporting a variety of different programs aimed at helping men and women support their households and achieve their vocational dreams, from microloans to job-skills training programs.
